Water‑repellent jackets are treated with a special coating that causes droplets to roll off the surface. This protects against light rain or snow, but is not fully waterproof. Over time the coating can wear off; retreatment is possible.

This value indicates how many grams of water vapour per square metre of fabric can escape in 24 hours. The higher the MVP, the better the jacket’s breathability.
